About Me
Hi! I’ve been playing drums for over 25 years and I truly believe that anyone can learn to play. Sure, some people might have a natural feel for rhythm and groove… but with enough practice, anyone can improve and enjoy drumming.
My own musical journey started with piano from ages 6 to 12, and then I played French Horn from middle school all the way through college on a music scholarship. Those instruments gave me a strong foundation in music theory. I also marched in high school winter guard as part of the drumline which helped shape my approach to rhythm and performance. If you have the chance to join your school band or take piano lessons on the side, I highly recommend doing so. It really adds to your overall musicality.
When I coach, I focus a lot on groove and feel. We also can absolutely chat about gear, recording, gigs, and other drumming-related topics as well. My coaching is best suited for drummers who have been playing for a little while—intermediate level and up. Lessons will cover technique, groove and feel, and we’ll dive into basic rudiments and time signatures. While I totally respect reading sheet music, I don’t teach in that style. Instead we’ll learn by listening, playing, and feeling the music. I do accept beginner students on a case-by-case basis and work on the beginning fundamentals and techniques.
